Orrrrr Thursday as we call it 'round here.
Life just revolves around the farm when you're on a farm. The work gets scheduled first and everything else tucks in around it. Whether we like it or not. Trips, outings, parties, events, sports, and others all get sub-prioritized to feeding, sorting, working, moving, loading cows and planting, chopping, discing, ripping, baling, hauling, combining corn, beans, ground, fields, crops, stalks, bales and anything else you can think of. Back. Seat.
Or Buddy seat if you want to ride along and wait.
This guy here is a lot of the beef of This Mom's Beef. Farmers make up 1% of the population and he's my cut. He's aged and pretty well done. A little fatty around the edges. I'd still say prime, though. 👌 I give him a lot of grief. I publish blogs ribbing him and post photos of him that are not very flattering. He takes the brunt of a lot of the blaming, the nagging, the bitching, the bossing, the running and kind of just shakes his head and just shoulders through it all.
He could probably do it a little more quietly, but he just takes it. With very few perks. I mean, me as his wife is a pretty big perk (and he'd probably make an argument that it is in fact not), but other than that. He just gets done what needs to be done.
Being the farmer's wife comes with it's own share of struggles, but I very literally wouldn't make it without this farmer.
To make farming and cattle brewing (I made that up but that's what I'm going to call it from now on) work well, takes a lot of time, a lot of money (that you don't have), and a lot of work.
A lot of persistence and dedication.
A lot of worry. Seriously, I think 24/7 worrying is a requisite for success.
Crazy friends who love it as much as you do (apparently).
A healthy sense of humor.
A deep love for this country and its land.
Unshakeable faith in God.
And clearly, a few drinks don't hurt, either.
